Mike’s Music Mix 2

I’m once again raiding my Last.fm artists list to glean a bunch of my favorites and share them with you. These are a sampling of artists I listen to as I write fiction or code. Here’s Mike’s Music Mix, Part 2.

Heart – Dreamboat Annie

Heart is my all-time favorite group. My favorite Heart song is Magic Man, but for these Music Mix posts, I’m trying not to duplicate other videos I’ve posted elsewhere on my site, so I’ll refrain from posting Magic Man here. 🙂

Otep – Confrontation

I saw Otep live in concert, years ago. I talked with her a bit. She’s one clever, creative, intelligent, seductive woman in person. She’s an artist that my kid and I both enjoy listening to.

The Donnas – Who Invited You

When it comes to all-girl rock bands, it’s hard to beat The Donnas in my book.

The Doobie Brothers – Long Train Runnin’

This track is one of the first ones I owned as a single on a 45 RPM record… or maybe it belonged to my brother Steve. I don’t remember which of us bought it, but, either way, I treated it like it was mine. 🙂

Meg Myers – A New Society

This young lady is so intense. Her very aura enthralls me. I subscribed to her for a while on Patreon. She made the Patreon subscription worth the money by giving her fans a look into her private life and the chance to watch her creative process at work.

Rob Zombie – Feel So Numb

I could have posted Dragula, Superbeast, or Living Dead Girl here, but decided to go with a video I haven’t watched to death already. 🙂

Janet Jackson – All Nite (Don’t Stop)

So many great Janet Jackson songs to choose from…. I’ve not watched this one as much as some of the others, especially those from the Rhythm Nation album. I saw Janet live in concert when Rhythm Nation was hot on the charts. This song is from a later album, and I wish I could have seen her perform it live, too. Her moves are hypnotic.

Billy Idol – Flesh for Fantasy

Billy Idol’s famous sneer is front and center here. 🙂

Dua Lipa – Future Nostalgia

I posted a Dua Lipa video to Facebook when she first came on the scene. My sister commented that Dua Lipa sounds a bit like Cher. Does she? I’d never have made the comparison myself, but maybe I can understand where my sister was coming from. Do Dua Lipa and Cher sing at a lower register than is common among other female pop stars?

Van Halen – Jump

One of my all-time favorite songs, and I can hardly believe I’ve not posted the video for it on this site already. Let me just rectify that onerous situation right now.

Jewel – Standing Still

Jewel’s style has continually changed over the years. Her songs have often carried a socially conscious message, while some of them are pure pop. Many of them have a country flair. I love them all. Well… I haven’t listened much to her lullabies for children, so I can’t say I love them, but they’re okay. Standing Still is one of my favorite Jewel tracks.

ZZ Top – La Grange

La Grange is my absolute favorite ZZ Top song. I don’t know that they ever made an official music video for it… I can’t find one on YouTube. But this fan-made homage to Easy Rider, featuring La Grange as a soundtrack, works just fine.

Tanya Tucker – Love Me Like You Used To

My cousin Dave gave me a Tanya Tucker vinyl LP album as a present long, long ago. He asked me if I would play the album if he gave it to me. I said yes, and so it became mine. It was one of my earliest albums, and I played it more than Dave probably expected I would, since I was playing more pop and rock n’ roll than country music back then. He needn’t have been concerned. Sadly, I don’t have the album anymore, but I still love listening to this talented country singer’s songs, both old and new.

Bee Gees – Jive Talkin’

I’ve never stopped loving disco music. Stayin’ Alive, Night Fever, and a bunch of other Bee Gees songs still make it onto my playlists from time to time these days, as do a few other favorites from the disco era. I was still growing up then, man, and being shaped into what I’ve become today, so they’re ingrained in me, ya know.

That’s all for now. Watch this site for the next Mike’s Music Mix post, or subscribe below.
