Let’s assume you’re familiar with those modern soulful pop singers like Adele, Lana Del Rey, and the like.

Now! Imagine music in a similar vein that still had the laid back piano and jazz influence, but had much more of a rock edge. Excited yet? Get that in mind, and we’re ready to talk about History Speaks, by Deep Sea Diver.

This Seattle-based pop-rock group shifts a lot between two styles, but ultimately coming back to that fusion. There’s a handful of soulful ballads, a handful of traditional pop-rock songs, and many that mix both of them.

This sort of music is really hot right now, and I’m surprised they haven’t made it big yet. Deep Sea Diver can groove, they can soul, and they can rock. It’s all just so expressive, and that’s what I look for in good music. Continue reading →
