#1: Gang Gang Dance – Eye Contact
My tastes vary from time to time. Gang Gang Dance is probably one of the stranger, and more complicated albums to define on this list.
The band sounds like a modern version of Dead Can Dance mixed with a little bit of electronica. It’s great music to chill out too, but it’s not chill in the way other music on this list is. It’s good music to be weird with.
These odd beats that Gang Gang Dance presents are strangely arousing. I can’t put my finger on why I enjoy them so much, but by far I got much more enjoyment out of “Eye Contact” than anything else all year. This was real. This was visceral.
This was just what I needed.
In a year where even the “do it yourself” music became homogenized there was still something unique out there, still something fun for me to actually enjoy.
I really like your #3 pick, though I’d never heard them before.
