Michael’s Top 10 Artists for 2011

#3: Fefe Dobson

I’ve made it clear in some of my previous posts that Fefe Dobson is my favorite music artist of the past decade. Her unreleased album, Sunday Love, is my most played album of the past five years. Three of her tracks, Get You Off, Ghost, and Watch Me Move, are my overall #3, #4, and #5 most played tracks, respectively. In 2011 specifically, my most played Fefe Dobson tracks were Ghost (#37) and Stuttering (#38), which obviously weren’t played as often as tracks by certain other artists in 2011. But I enjoy listening to a lot of Fefe’s songs, from all of her albums, and it’s the combination of all the plays from all of her albums that places her at #3 on my top artists countdown.

Fefe is doing decently well for herself with her latest album, Joy. Stuttering peaked at #10 on the Canadian Hot 100, and some of the other tracks ranked in the Canadian Hot 100 and on other Billboard charts in the US. Her self-titled debut album spent 17 weeks on the Billboard 200 back in 2003, and Fefe hasn’t seen that sort of chart ranking with Joy—not to take away from her success with her debut album, but the music business was a lot different 9 years ago than it is today.

Regardless of how much Billboard chart success her latest album sees, I’m happy that Fefe released Joy, and that it didn’t go the way of Sunday Love. She learned from her experience with Sunday Love, and used that knowledge to sell Joy. Cool.

Can’t Breathe – Fefe Dobson

By the way, Fefe, I know you’re still promoting Joy, and might even release another single or two from it, but any time you’re ready to record the next album, I’m ready to buy it and play it. Just saying…
