I can’t stop watching Ke$ha’s latest video, Blow.
Most Ke$ha songs are relatively simple anthems about fun and partying. Blow is no different, but the video turns it into a tour-de-force of action comedy.
At least, that’s what I’d like to think. Ke$ha is at a party full of Unicorn-headed businessmen. Then walks in Varsity Blues and Dawson’s Creek star James Van Der Beek. They commence to insult each other, and then a fight breaks out using guns that emit rainbows.
It’s a little absurd, but I really enjoy the seemingly random fight scenes. There’s also a part where Ke$ha throws out her bra to show that she’s serious. Van Der Beek then proceeds to throw out his bra, much to the confusion of Ke$ha.
The song itself isn’t too bad. Due to its catchy nature, you can easily get it stuck in your head for days. I know I did.
The echo of the word “Blow” is probably what did it for me.
I love hearing this on the radio; I usually turn it up as loud as I can. The loud bass and the relatively simplistic lyrical patterns make for a great driving experience.
Most of her videos are just party videos. Maybe I’ve been desensitized by their simplicity, but this one tried to tell a decent story: The epic battle between Ke$ha and James Van Der Beek at a classy dinner party where all attendees have goofy unicorn heads.
I know it’s a tale I will one day tell my children.
Her whole Cannibal EP is pretty good. If you haven’t had the chance, I suggest you check it out.
